What Is the Student Council?
The Student Council, commonly known as “Edari”, is the highest decision-making body of the Student Union. The council’s term of office follows the calendar year, beginning on the 1st of January and ending on the 31st of December.
The Student Council determines the Student Union’s main policies, approves documents prepared by the Board, and decides on matters such as the budget and the action plan for the following year. The Student Council also elects the Student Union’s Board and appoints student representatives to KAMK’s official administrative bodies.
In the Student Council elections, twenty-one (21) representatives and twenty-one (21) deputy members are elected.
Becoming a Candidate
The Student Union’s work language is Finnish.
Candidacy is open during a specific nomination period announced in the election notice. Applications are submitted via a separate nomination form. Candidates may either join an electoral alliance or run as independents.
Electoral Alliance
Candidates may, if they wish, form an electoral alliance by completing a founding document for the alliance.
An electoral alliance is a group of one or more candidates whose votes are counted collectively to benefit all its members. The members of an alliance often study in the same field or share similar views and ideas.
The alliance must appoint a representative, who may also be a candidate. The name of the alliance must not infringe personal rights, be commercial in nature, or otherwise be inappropriate. A candidate may belong to only one (1) electoral alliance.
Voting Rights
Only ordinary members of the Student Union who have paid their membership fee are entitled to vote in the Student Council elections.
Student Council Election
If there are more than twenty-one (21) eligible candidates, a Student Council election will be held.
The election takes place in October–November.
Information about early voting and the official election day will be announced when the list of candidates is published.
